Support
BatFi
Compatibility
Which Macs does BatFi support?
BatFi runs on Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS Sonoma 14.8 or later. Intel Macs are not supported, and there are no plans for an Intel version.
Does BatFi work on macOS 27 (Golden Gate)?
Yes. BatFi 4.0 adds full support for macOS 27. If you are on macOS 27, make sure you are running BatFi 4.0 or newer (open BatFi and check for updates).
BatFi is stuck on "Initializing" or shows an exclamation mark (!) icon. What should I do?
This usually happens after installing the macOS 27 beta. The beta updates the battery firmware, and that change stays even if you go back to an older macOS. Update to BatFi 4.0 or newer, which works with the new firmware.
If you are not on macOS 27 and still see the "!" icon, the background helper may need a reset: open System Settings > General > Login Items, turn BatFi off, restart your Mac, and turn it back on.
BatFi shows 0% battery on macOS 27.
Update to BatFi 4.0 or newer. Older versions cannot read battery data on macOS 27.
Can I set a charge limit below 80% on macOS 27?
Yes, with BatFi 4.0 or newer. Apple changed the firmware mechanism in macOS 27, and BatFi 4 restores limits below 80%.
Charging behavior
Why does BatFi say "macOS is charging to 100%"?
From time to time macOS charges the battery to 100% to calibrate it. This is normal and good for accurate battery readings. BatFi steps aside while it happens, and the battery goes back down to your limit afterwards.
My Mac stops charging below my limit, or the MagSafe LED turns green early.
A green LED means macOS itself decided charging is finished. Check two macOS settings: the charge limit in System Settings > Battery (the info button next to Charging), and Optimized Battery Charging. Turn both off so BatFi is the only thing managing the limit.
Do I need to turn off Optimized Battery Charging?
Yes. It can conflict with BatFi's limit, so we recommend turning it off.
What does "Charge to 100%" do?
It is a one-time override that lets the battery charge fully, for example before a trip. It does not keep the battery at 100%: once the charge completes, BatFi goes back to your normal limit and the battery gradually returns to it.
Can BatFi discharge the battery with the lid closed?
Yes. On macOS 27, BatFi uses the system's built-in charge control, which handles this on its own, so the battery discharges to your limit even with the lid closed. On macOS 26 and earlier, turn on the BatFi option that keeps your Mac from sleeping; with it enabled, discharging continues while the lid is closed.
What charge limit should I use?
80% is a good default for most people. It is also a good idea to let the battery run down and charge fully from time to time, for example once a month or once a quarter.
Is it safe to use BatFi?
Yes. BatFi uses the same charging controls macOS uses. Keeping the battery at a lower charge level reduces wear over time.
Why is BatFi's battery health different from what macOS shows?
BatFi calculates health from the battery's current maximum charge compared to its original design capacity. Apple uses its own method, which is not public, so the numbers can differ slightly.

Herald
Updates
Does Herald update App Store apps?
Yes. Herald installs their updates itself, in the same list as the rest. Open in App Store takes you to an app's page there.
Does Herald work with Homebrew?
Yes. The packages you installed with Homebrew are in the same list, and Homebrew itself upgrades them. Apps you installed with Homebrew are updated like any other app, checks included.
What does Herald check before it installs an update?
The new version has to be signed by the same developer as the copy you have, notarized by Apple, and no older than what you have. An update that fails any of these is not installed, and Herald tells you why.
Price and requirements
How much is Herald, and on how many Macs?
$9.99 a year. Your first week is free, and one subscription covers three Macs. Herald needs macOS 26 or later.

Hourly Beep
Chimes
Does Hourly Beep chime when my iPhone is locked?
Yes. Chimes play through notifications, even with your iPhone locked.
Why didn't I hear a chime?
Sound follows your iPhone's notification, Silent Mode and Focus settings. Start with the line under Hourly Beep's clock: it shows when the next beep plays, or why none will, for example when its notifications or their sounds are turned off. If notifications are off, Open System Settings, under Notifications in Hourly Beep's settings, takes you to the page where you allow them.
Can it chime every 15 or 30 minutes?
Yes, with Pro: schedules run at intervals from 1 minute to 4 hours. Free includes one schedule, which chimes every hour, and four sounds.
Can Hourly Beep say the time out loud?
Yes, with Pro: the Voice sound says the time on the hour and every quarter hour, in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese or Polish.
Pro
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks all 37 sounds, multiple schedules and every interval. Hourly Beep needs iOS 26 or later.
